The Ship Inn has gained an excellent island reputation for the food and drink it serves all year round. Real ales are on tap for those who love good cask beers whereby Holy Island bitter (4% abv) and Secret Kingdom (4.3% abv) brewed by the award winning Hadrian & Border Brewery can be enjoyed with seasonal changes featuring equally enjoyable guest beers. Ever popular Theakstones cask ale, Guinness, keg bitters, two lagers and draught cider offer to quench even the strongest thirst. Combine this with an excellent range of malt whiskies, wines and spirits means the discerning drinker is well catered for either to be enjoyed at the bar or the well furnished lounge area featuring comfortable seating and tables. In the cold winter months the wood burner is often lit where you can relax by the warmth of a traditional fire and just savour the atmosphere that this traditional inn can offer, enjoying a drink, talking to friends or loved ones, relax reading a paper or book, or just while away the day savouring the uniqueness of Holy Island.

As you enter the bar area the ambience perfectly portrays an atmosphere akin to the interior of a traditional sailing ship with wood panelled walls adorned with artefacts of life at sea in days of yore. In addition, various photographs and paintings portray a history of island life from days past up to the present day.

The lounge area is tastefully carpeted and combined with wood panelling and traditional stone provides a pleasant area for a relaxing atmosphere where meals can be enjoyed.

At the rear of the main public bar area access can be gained to the ever popular beer garden.

In 2007, the owners proudly opened a purpose designed new kitchen. With the new facilities they pride themselves that The Ship Inn offers an extensive menu with “home made fare” commencing at lunchtime with light snacks, including our home made “soup of the day” plus a wide choice of main meals, and sandwiches. For our evening diners an a lá carte menu is offered, complimented by our daily “Specials board”. Particular favourites are the homemade steak in ale pie, our range of fish, various cuts of steak, grilled to your own particular liking, curries & chilli, which use only the best oriental spices, and a number of speciality dishes. In fact all tastes are catered for with a comprehensive menu that includes specifically tailored meals for vegetarians and children.

With the island surrounded twice daily by the sea our main speciality at The Ship Inn is its seafood. We have focused on fresh fish locally caught with produce ranging from fresh fillets of fish deep-fried in our own secret batter to the ever-popular Specials Board. We also serve, when available, fresh local crab and for more traditional tastes, deep fried scampi and succulent lobster tails are on offer. For our residents, locally caught whole lobster, when in season, is available to order.

Evening Meals: In the evening the a lá carte menu can be enjoyed within the confines of the inn and on warm evenings, in the peaceful surroundings of our lovely beer garden listening to the sounds of local birdlife evening song.

For our guests staying at The Ship Inn, we have our lounge area where reserved tables are offered to our residents. Equally, a warm welcome is offered to those who are just visiting for the evening and wish to enjoy the ambience the lounge area has to offer. Here you can relax, enjoy the meal & drink of your choice without leaving your seat as we offer a full waiter service to ensure you savour The Ship Inn’s relaxing charm.

For those couples choosing to have their wedding service at Lindisfarne castle, we are happy to provide a tailor made luncheon menu or our popular informal buffet. This service is also offered for christenings or other special occasions.
