Bar & Lounge at The Ship Inn - Holy Island of Lindisfarne

The Ship Inn has gained an excellent island reputation for the food and drink it serves all year round. For those who love real ales The Ship Inn has on tap its Holy Island bitter (4% abv) and Secret Kingdom (4.3% abv) brewed by the award winning Hadrian & Border Brewery with seasonal changes featuring equally enjoyable guest beers from around the U.K.

In addition the ever popular Theakstones, Guinness, John Smiths, Fosters, Kronenbourg & draught cider offer to quench even the strongest thirst. Combine this with an excellent range of malt whiskies, wines and spirits from around the world ensures the discerning drinker is well catered for. A drink can be enjoyed at the bar or the well furnished lounge area all featuring comfortable seating and tables.

In the cold winter months the wood burner is often lit where you can relax by the warmth of a traditional fire and just savour the atmosphere that a traditional inn can offer. Whether enjoying a drink, talking to friends or loved ones, relax reading a paper or book, just while away the day savouring the uniqueness of this inn on Holy Island.

A new designer kitchen was installed in 2007 and the owners pride themselves in that they offer an extensive menu range, much of which is “home made”. At lunchtime a more simplistic menu is offered from light bites, open deck sandwiches or full filling meals that will set you up for the rest of the day. Particular favourites are the homemade steak in ale pie, curries & chilli, which use only the best oriental spices.

With the island surrounded twice daily by the sea the main speciality at The Ship Inn is its seafood. We have focused on fresh fish locally caught with produce ranging from our famous large Haddock fillets of fish deep-fried in our own secret batter. We also serve, when available, fresh local crab, sea bass, and trout. Deep fried scampi and king prawns are also on offer. For residents staying at the inn, locally caught lobster, when in season is available to order

All tastes are catered for on our comprehensive menu including our soup of the day which is always suitable for vegetarians plus we offer a children’s menu.

Evening Meals

In the evening we offer an a lá carte menu that can be enjoyed either in the main bar area or on warm Summer evenings in the peaceful surroundings of our lovely beer garden listening to the sounds of local birdlife evening song.

For those who want that little extra, we have our lounge area where reserved tables are offered for our guests staying at The Ship Inn and equally a warm welcome is offered to those who are just visiting for the evening and wish to enjoy the ambience the lounge area has to offer. Here you can relax, enjoy the meal & drink of your choice, whether it’s local ale or fine wines from our extensive wine list you can sit back without leaving your seat as we offer a full waiter service to ensure you savour The Ship Inn’s unique charm.

Weddings & Other Special Occasions

For those couples choosing to have their wedding services at Lindisfarne Castle, we are happy to provide a tailor made luncheon menu or choose from one of our popular informal buffets. This service is also offered for special birthdays & wedding anniversaries, christenings or any other special occasions.

Private parties can also be catered for with the bar hired at a pre-arranged cost when outside normal hours and if required a marquee service can be offered for use in the garden.
